This project will explore the dialogue between two great modal traditions: the Indian raga system and the Arabic maqām. Both as living languages of improvisation, guided by emotion, ornamentation, and a profound sense of heritage. Ambi Subramaniam and Zied Zouari will create, through subtle resonances, a conversation between the precision of Indian melodic architecture and the sensual, microtonal inflections of the Arabic music.
Ambi Subramaniam, son of renowned violinist-composer-conductor Dr. L. Subramaniam and vocalist Vijayashree Subramaniam “Viji”, has been described by the Times of India as “the new king of Indian classical violin.”
As a young musician, Ambi Subramaniam bridges tradition and innovation, making him a meaningful and contemporary figure of Indian classical music.
Zied Zouari is a key figure in the world of Arab-Oriental music and an iconic violinist worldwide. The artist sculpts sound as one dresses silence. “I am a decorator of silence,” he likes to say, transforming each note into a color. Born in Sfax, Tunisia, Zied Zouari as a composer has collaborated with leading international artists such as Goran Bregović, Dhafer Youssef, Ibrahim Maalouf, and Jordi Savall.
Konarak Reddy an Indian guitarist and composer celebrated for his uniquely expressive sound, blending Indian classical traditions with the freedom of contemporary acoustic music, will be joining this musical encounter.
For Reddy, music is not merely performance but a contemplative space. He often speaks of the “silence between the notes” as the true heart of expression — a philosophy that resonates deeply in his concerts, known for their warmth, subtlety, and spiritual undertones.
