Sabir Khan
The Master of Sarangi – A tribute to Zakir Hussain

Born in Jodhpur, Sabir Khan, son of late sarangi maestro Ustad Sultan Khan, one of India’s most revered musicians, represents the ninth generation of sarangi players in his family.

Belonging to the prestigious Sikar Gharana, a lineage known for its rich vocal and instrumental traditions, trained from childhood under his father’s guidance, Sabir Khan combines technical mastery with deep emotional expressions, carrying forward the subtle nuances of Hindustani classical music while introducing the sarangi into contemporary collaborations.

He has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia or John McLaughlin, among others. But mostly, he devoted his talent to late Ustad Zakir Hussain.

Today, Sabir Khan continues to be a bridge between tradition and innovation, honoring his heritage while shaping the future sound of Indian music. He himself felt the importance for coming back to his roots through this specific concert in the Sacred Jodhpur Festival.
