Kutch tradition

The Rabari shepherds of the Kutch and Manganiar and Langa of Rajasthan carry forward a legacy woven from migration, devotion, and memory inspired by sacred rhythms of nature.

Connected culturally with Sindh, Rajasthan, and Persia, Kutch or Kachchh is a vast arid region bordering Pakistan, known for the Rann of Kutch, a salt desert that turns into a shimmering white expanse during the dry season. Its inhabitants include diverse communities: Rabari, Ahir, Jat, Mutwa, Harijan, and Meghwal, among others, and each carry unique customs such as those of Rudaali, Ravanhatha players, or Meerabai. Kutch has a long tradition of Sufi and Bhakti devotion, which is slowly disappearing as a result of sprawling tourism.
